{"id":224,"date":"2016-04-26T00:28:33","date_gmt":"2016-04-25T22:28:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dolicapax.org\/?p=224"},"modified":"2016-04-26T00:31:16","modified_gmt":"2016-04-25T22:31:16","slug":"adding-oracle-database-appliance-to-uln","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dolicapax.org\/?p=224","title":{"rendered":"Adding Oracle Database Appliance to ULN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At some point you may want to register an Oracle Database Appliance with the Oracle Unbreakable Linux Network so you can get a critical security update, without running a complete ODA update bundle.<\/p>\n<p>However, if you happen to be running ODA Virtual Platform (that supports running virtual machines), rather than the bare metal version (that does not) &#8211; you may be up for a surprise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;This system profile has already been registered&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your ODA appears to already exist on ULN!<br \/>\nBut wait, no, there is no sign of it on your account. What is going on here?<\/p>\n<p>At least in the early versions of the ODA software, Oracle forgot to update the UUID for registration on the ODA_BASE image after installation. This means that ALL database appliances (with virtual support, anyway) would try to register with the same UUID.<\/p>\n<p>Well, now that we know what the fuzz is all about, it&#8217;s easy enough to fix:<\/p>\n<p>First generate a new UUID<\/p>\n<pre>[root@oda1-base ~]# uuidgen -t\r\n<strong>abf436a8-0b33-11e6-9210-00163e76eec2<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p>Then edit <em>\/etc\/sysconfig\/rhn\/up2date-uuid\u00a0<\/em>and change the entry for <em>rhnuuid\u00a0<\/em>to the freshly generated value<\/p>\n<pre>uuid[comment]=Universally Unique ID for this server\r\n<strong>rhnuuid=abf436a8-0b33-11e6-9210-00163e76eec2<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p>All set, just run <em>rhn_register<\/em>\u00a0(or <em>up2date-nox &#8211;register)\u00a0<\/em>and complete the registration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At some point you may want to register an Oracle Database Appliance with the Oracle Unbreakable Linux Network so you can get a critical security update, without running a complete ODA update bundle.
